Fort McMurray

Sun Jul 13, 2008, 3:38 PM
Hey there, I'm not certain who if anyone still reads these but I suppose I'm sort of back from my unexpected hiatus from dART. As I've mentioned earlier I have been in Fort McMurray, Alberta for the past 2 months working for an oil company. I'm pretty happy about my job I think. I won't talk much about it because that's not the reason I'm on dA. However I will say the city here is... okay but I find sadly there is much to be desired here. I had a weird idea before I arrived that being up here I'd see things like my trip to Jasper or Banff. I imagined finding a nice clean lake and practice swimming again in a temperate rain forest. It's not that it's polluted here or anything, but simply I'm stuck in the middle of a suburb when at home and it's hard to go anywhere without a car. I also find myself with much less time than I expected. I wake up much earlier than I'm used to everyday to get to work. I work normal 7:30 to 4:30 hours but getting to and from work sometimes takes 3 hours altogether with the bad traffic. As a result I haven't done nearly as much photography as I'd like.

In another note, I'm sure you (the reader) already know about the earthquake in China. I realized about a week after it happened that 2 years ago I went very close to the epicenter of the quake on vacation. I took a lot of photos of the things there but haven't gotten around to posting it. It's weird to think things will be totally different now after the earthquake. I hope to show you guys how it may have used to look sometime when I find sometime and good frames to post.

Can you send me a link? I'm curious what people might have to say. Hopefully they can give me some tips...
:iconvector712:
Thanks again! I didn't know those places existed.

I've posted here [link] and here [link] but if you're looking for more of a critique, you might want to take a look here[link]

I have a backlog of about several thousand pictures I need to go through.... most of them are crap... but once in a while I'll fine one or two good ones.

I think taking time to actually go out and take them, and then sifting through all the garbage to get a few good frames are probably the parts that take up the most time.

Although I'm sad to say I'll probably go back to a more regular schedule of posting just about nothing when school's back in session. :depressed:
:iconvector712:
Thanks! I really appreciate you doing that!

Don't worry about it, still look forward to it.

I've posted a few of your things in the thumbnail share forums too because I think your photography is better than a lot of people's there... I didn't think you'd mind, so I hope it's ok =)
